Moving Forward

The rising cost of living in Malaysia is one of the common discussion topics among Malaysians nowadays. This however is not a local issue but a global one. The news about rising cost of food and fuel were everywhere long before the fuel subsidy cut early June. The 40% rise of fuel price however had caused a tsunami affect on the prices of transportation, food and even petrol related products. Adding to the political instability, Malaysians are getting fed up of the things that are happening around us. I personally do not think things will get any better soon. I was pessimistic before the March 3rd election, I am pessimistic now.

So what now? I am not the complaining type but I do admit recent bickering had made some minor improvements in the government policies. This however is not a long term solution. We cannot keep complaining and HOPE things will change for the better, we must change on the one thing that we CAN change, that is our self. I created this group not to let people complain but to share experiences and ideas on how we can get through these tougher times.

32 vs 183 kills

Photo Display: msnbc
msnbc

Its been more than a year since i blog here. Been very busy with life and feel like write something after all the recent events happening.

I had been following the Virginia Tech massacre since after a few hour the event unfolded. Reading through the news and updated from various sources and I really feel disturbed by the event. 6++ years in Minnesota had made me feel that US is pretty much a big part of my root because of all the fantastic things I had gone through during my 6 yrs there. The Virginia Tech shooting brought me back to the time when 911 happens when I was still in Minnesota, feeling sad and depressed about the event.

So few days after that event i still keep refreshing the msnbc website to look for any updates regarding the VT shooting. It is still in the headline on the front page but later i notice at the section below it there is a small news link 'At least 183 killed in 4 Baghdad car bombings'. So it kinda struck me then that there are much more worse events going on around the world but people (including me) just choose to concern about things going on in the western world.

No doubt msnbc and cnn are american owned and they have the right to decide which matter is more significant. But I am just saying because those troubled country like Iraq have very limited voice to speak up thus they are most often being ignored. We know there are 4.0 GPA student who got killed in the shooting but do we know any young bright kids who got killed in the Iraq bomb blast? If we look at the magnitude of the event, shouldn;t that event in Iraq getting 6x more coverage and 6x more effort in solving the issue? The world's problem will never be solved when ppl chooses to ignore the events going on on the other part of the world. We all living on the same planet, the problems we ignore will eventually comming back to haunt us like what happen on 911. Its time we revive the song 'We are the world'..

There comes a time when we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
and its time to lend a hand to life
There greatest gift of all

We cant go on pretending day by day
That someone, somewhere will soon make a change
We are all a part of Gods great big family
And the truth, you know,
Love is all we need

My Simple Valentines day

I have a simple valentines day with my wife. We both had received our gifts prior to Valentines Day and today we celebrated in a more mediocre fashion. Our initial plan is to go to Mandy’s at Summit USJ but the traffic seems impossible so we made a turn towards some place closer and we end up at Subang Parade. The mall was quiet and we make a quick browse over the lower ground floor’s restaurant before deciding on Nando's. The Manhattan Fish Market next door was more decorative for the occasion but since my wife made the suggestion so we went along with it. She probably worry my pocket is not big enough to have dinner at Manhattan Fish Market... how sweet of her..

Nando's has the Lover’s Choice Menu for the day. Two carbonated blackcurrant beverages, Caesar salad, hot soup, quarter chicken with rice and one ice-cream intended for the couple to share the cold treat.

Nando's is probably our second favourite chicken place... come on no other can replace the finger licking good KFC. But what make Nando's really stands out is their sauce, and it meets everyone spicy level from Extra Hot Peri Peri to Lemon and Herb sauce. Yeah.. I had the sisy sauce but hey I enjoyed it.

Yeah.. we had a very simple Valentines day.. but what most important we shared the time together and enjoyed the day. Happy Valentines Day to all

CNY pt 2 in Taiping

The celebrative mood in Taiping has already passed when we arrived on the 3rd day of Chinese New Year. We still managed to visit a few uncles and an aunt before they left for Kuala Lumpur the next day.

The rest of our stay there were pretty decent. Of cause the visits to Taiping will not be a complete one without taking a photo shootout at the Taiping Lake Garden. However the City of Rain lives up to its name by welcoming us to the lake with a slight down pours. The rain had created a magnificent view over the lotus pond.

The raining clouds over the park started to break away at about 6pm and the golden sun shines brightly on to the playground while the backdrop mountain still catches the shadows of the breaking cloud.

We went back to the lake the next day afternoon trying to cover the other part of the lake. This time the monkey greeted us and their playful attitude makes them a good subject for photo shoot. The weather also brought out the true beauty of the lake.

Chinese New Year pt 1

The journey back to hometown was smooth, I was a little bit adventurous that day and took the later exit from the highway thinking the additional ride on highway would make up to the additional distance took but I was wrong. Still I was the first who arrive my hometown.

The New Year eve started off with family photo sessions before the traditional reunion dinner. This year we went back to the old fashion reunion dinner, steam boat or hot pot. The Chinese steam boat consist of a simmering pot of stock at the center of the dining table while an array of raw and marinated ingredients is dump into it before consuming. This year's steam boat are mainly seafood and we all having it until 10.30pm

This year's new year eve was not as explosive as last year. There were only sporadic burst here and there, not very exciting for photo shooting but we all sleep better without the noises. Nothing new on the New Year’s morning, we visit our grandma after breakfast and I can’t remember when we did not do this in the morning of Chinese New Year day.

The next day is actually my father's birthday according to the lunar calendar. We had made plan to have lunch in Segamat, 30 minutes away from my hometown. We had another tradisional meal called "Yu Shang" before leaving for Segamat. Yu Shang is usually having it during reunion dinner but the incredients for the steam boat the new year eve was too much for us to have Yu Shang. Yu Shang consist of variety (usually 8 as the number symbolises wealth) of marinated/processed fruits and vegetables all in a small pieces, and in most cases raw fish is added in. Then using the chopstick, all the members mix and toss the mixture as high as possible. The higher the toss the more wealth you will receive in the year ahead.

We all bit farewell after the lunch in Segamat. This is probably the shortest Chinese New Year celebration in my family history. Usually we would stay at my hometown until the 3rd or 4th day of New Year. I bet it was a very lonely journey back to hometown after lunch for my parent and my sister who live with them. The journey back to KL was smooth with minor jam near Seremban. It was unusual to see the traffic was much worse on the opposite lane as normally people will go back to the city instead of comming out after the Chinese New Year

Later I will be on another journey to the north visiting my wife's parent. I will be staying in Taiping for 4 days. I hope the trip in Taiping will be a more relax one which I assume it will be as we had passed the hussle and bussle of Chinese New Year day.
