Genting For the New Year

It was a nice holiday getaway at Genting Highlands last new year 2006 with my wife. We arrived at the tip of the hill just before noon on the 31st. Arriving at the First World Hotel parking lot seems to surprise us as there were quite a lot of empty spaces to go around. The lobby seems a bit quiet as well.

We had some dissapointing RM6 Bur Bur Cha Cha dessert at the Indoor Theme Park before deciding what to do next. We regretly bought the All Day Indoor Pass for RM 28 each. All the indoor rides are too slow and boring for us. Anyway.. we got plenty of time to kill so we just try to make use of the pass as much as possible. There were stage performances at about 2pm, Not until almost 3pm we decided to have lunch. Just beside Kenny Rogers there is a nice restaurant called Hou Mei translated as "Good Taste". My wife had the Asam Laksa and I had the Soya Duck Noodle. The price are reasonable and the portion of the food are huge. My wife already full half way through the Asam Laksa.

New Year at Genting Highland

We had a quick nap after checking in. As for dinner, we went to a noodle shop called Only Mee. They home make all the noodles served there and being a noodle fan it was heavan. They serve it with a huge large of bowl enough to hold a litre of soup. The noodle it self is a bit dissapointing, I had better home made noodles. After dinner we went for the arcade. Arcade is definately another great place to waste your money at Genting beside the casino. We head for the stage again at about 10pm to watch the closing ceremony of the Genting 40th Anniversary celebration. After that we head outside hoping there will be fireworks for the new year celebration. As we walk around we saw quite a big crowd gathering at the edge of a walkpath, soon we notice the people are waiting to see the fireworks from the whole Klang Valley. It was a clear night and soon we see tiny fireworks spawning all over Klang Valley, it was an interesting experience.

The next day is all outdoor. After a late breakfast we headed for the Outdoor Theme Park. I was pretty happy to see a lot of photography subjects to shoot around. The crowds somehow appearing everywhere on the new year's day. The theme park was full and most rides need to wait for at least 15 minutes to get on it. The boat ride is our favourite, especially I dont have to paddle it as my wife volunteer to do the work

. The breeze was cool and we both felt relax floating on the lake.

We say good bye to Genting just before dawn. It was a very tiring afternoon. Unfortunately we caught a heavy rain arriving at Kuala Lumpur and it took us almost 2 hours to reach home in Glenmarie. A nice holiday for the new year.
